Just a site for some crazy little things, but we do like.

Storm of holiday clothes, when do Cruise or Resort collections become huge?

Recently, if you have time to click on your favorite websites, you will likely to see troop of designers launched their Resort collection on Mid of June. Before you questioned about fashion calendar, I would like to explain roughly about a year of fashion.

In one year, Famous fashion brands will present their main Ready-to-Wear collections twice a year on Feb-March(for Fall/Winter Season) and Sep-Oct ( for Spring/Summer season ) to synchronize with buying, production and distribution schedule which need around 4-5 months to meet the launching date in early of each season.

For exclusively High fashion houses that are listed  by the Chambre de commerce et d’industrie de Paris will present additional Made-to-Order collections twice a year on Jan ( Spring/Summer ) and July ( Fall/Winter ) with no concern about those Ready-to-Wear mentioned period since client will contact to fashion house directly and do Custom-Made whenever they need.

For Men’s collection, fashion Houses will launch the collection on Jan ( Fall/Winter ) and July ( Spring/Summer ) before Haute Couture week.

Lanvin Resort 2013

As if there have enough slot time within a year to emerge more collections, but this Cruise Phonomenon had been inserted gradually in fashion calendar for a big while, started around 2003. At first, the pre-collection for holiday moment was called Cruise Collection which emphasize its meaning for Rich people who is likely to escape their cold-colder weather which start from November untill end of December to any warm paradises all over the world. Only big fashion houses who have resource to exploit in this tiny collection will play a game becuase this tiny collection also need  effort like main collection. However, the result was getting huge time after time. Not only, press coverages were in every types of media, but also a huge additional revenue flowed from customer who are truly rich enough to travel.  After many of fashion houses joined the pool, it seemed that Cruises were no longer enough to carry all brands or some critics sarcastically mentioned that “Cruise” word seemed too snobbish. Then, the Resort collection was officially announced.

Resort collections offer light spring or summer clothing with mostly on voyage or cocktail styling.  In rtail business, fashion houses are targeted at customers who have “finished buying their fall wardrobes and are looking ahead to vacations”. Moreover, there is a very good opportunity to fill “Sale/Discount” space in their houses with luxurious,full-price range and fanciful environment which is a witty mechanic to establish themself to be LUXURY and Up-to-date brands.
